The inspiration for Emily’s Group came about in 2006 when I returned to London with my family after living in New York for four years. During that time our house had been rented out and when we moved back in to it we realised there was a considerable amount of work to be done.
I found it virtually impossible to get anything done quickly and efficiently and a lot of my time was spent hunting for builders, plumbers, carpenters who were based locally and wouldn’t cost the earth. It wasn’t just the house. I needed tips on such things as good nurseries, child care, doctors, car insurance, gyms and holiday destinations.
I needed an answer on pretty much everything and I kept thinking to myself that what I wanted and needed were personal recommendations.
So I came up with the solution: a website for women who wanted to share information and it soon became clear there was a lot of ground to cover.
